about

Conference of the Birds is an epic poem written by Farid ud-Din Attar ( c.1145-c.1221) in northern Persia, which describes a discussion between various birds as they try to decide how to choose a leader. Each character argues their case, only to be rebutted in a series of ever-more complex disputes until, finally, they agree. We used the story to guide the growth of melodic and rhythmic ideas, with us all, finally, singing in unison.
